What is it?
Olive’s newest kid on the block, Lady Baga washes ashore in Delhi. They have free love, dirt cheap beer and lip-smacking food. What’s their mantra? Good question! They are all about – flower power, the Beatles, make Sangria not war, peace, love, Shiva Valley, Baga beach (Goa), Anjuna flea market (Goa), sand, sky, sea, and scrumptious food. Pretty much everything that Goa stands for. What do they serve? Goan beach-shack food, innovative cocktails and drinks for every season and mood.
How’s the décor?
Walk in to find a lot of deck beds, a riot of colours, hammocks, and hand-made dream catchers. Beaded curtains, brocade cholis and tie-dye cushions adorn the seating area. Lady Baga perfectly recreates the Goan sussegad. Mattresses and laid back seating; sand and bamboo reed, and matted banana leaf – all resonate with the spirit of Goa in the 60s.
The décor screams out loud the spirit of hippies. Essences of old Goa brings forth feelings of freedom. At Lady Baga, the visual experience has been designed by Sabina Singh with Clement De’ Sylva.
What do they serve?
Lady Baga serves beach shack classics and great Goan fare only. The menu is generous and when we say “catch of the day” – they mean it literally. All you need is seafood It is fresh and flown in every day.
For appetiser, start with The Prawn Lonche and some Crispy Fried Bombil (popularly known as Bombay Duck); it is served with coconut chutney. Also, try the Yellow Submarine, which has hand-cut, crisp chips served with an assortment of dips. Or, Father Lorenzo’s Chorizo, tossed in traditional spice mix. Platter de Friar is a good combination with drinks and comes with magic mushrooms, Porta Porta Paneer, Gherkin and Jalapeno Chips with assorted dips and greens.
Also, do not miss the traditional Ros Omelette. it’s a Goan favourite. It’s a masala omelette topped with Goan-style chicken curry, garnished with chopped onions and coriander with pao on the side. For vegetarians, they have Mr Johnny Pinto’s sure-shot recipe to take care of yesterday’s hangover. A Hearty Breakfast of fresh pancakes topped with Nutella and bananas, creamy mushrooms on toast, and a serving of baked spicy potatoes and grilled tomatoes, will sort you out too!
Burger lovers will enjoy The Woodstock Chicken with a melt in the mouth grilled chicken patty, cheddar cheese and mustard sauce; or a juicy Lamb burger with a mint and cumin-flavoured minced lamb patty, drizzled with red wine jus and onions. If you want local, home-style food, try the local thali. It has options like Vegetarian, Chicken, Mutton or Fish served with Rice, Chapati, Salad, Pickle and Tivol (kokum shot). Lastly, do not miss the Goan Prawn Curry and Pork Vindaloo.
If you like thick milkshakes, go for the Fresh Banana Milkshake, or Crazee Cold Coffee. For desserts, have the toffee pudding.
What to drink?
Inspired by Goa, the cocktails have been specially crafted to infuse Goa in a glass. Have some Bloody Marianna, house-made special Goan chorizo infused vodka! Their mixologist has been busy creating their very own variants of cashew and palm vodka with Moonshine and Hooch that will make any Goan proud. Beam it up Scotty as ginger mingles with scotch and tamarind juice in The Ginger Man. For beer-lovers they have Hick Hick Hurray where raspberry, tequila, sprite and beer come together to create an all new tequila sunrise.
